Tool for faster trades on social media news about stocks that you hold

    Posted: 09 Aug 2018 05:47 AM PDT

    Hello,

I made and have been using a little python program for myself for years now, where i can manage my social media push notifications on mobile. On request i now implemented a website version for everyone..

Basically you paste a subreddit or twitter url and set filters (f.e. contains phrases or min karma) to your needs. Then you will receive fitting posts to your connected devices.

Now simply put all niche-relevant finance/news channels in there and filter it so you get notified whenever something is posted about a stock that you hold or watch -> instant buy/sell. It was often really helpful/lucrative to get a certain info a few hours or even minutes sooner. I hope it helps you too! What are your thoughts?

You can find the beta version under pushm.io

Why is Wall Street constantly wrong about Apple?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2018 10:39 AM PDT

I've been following the company closely the last 6 years.

Bought my first AAPL shares in late 2012 for about $80. Bought more as Wall Street continued to bash the stock in 2013. Pick up shares at $65.

And one constant I've seen: Wall Street is constantly wrong about AAPL. No matter how well they do. No matter how many iPhones they sell. No matter how massive the services business is and how fast its growing. They always say, "they did awesome this quarter....but the future looks bleak." They have been saying this for 6 years in a row.

No matter what Wall Street is always doubting AAPL. Always saying they are a bad quarter away from being doomed. Its really silly.

But I do thank Wall Street for being wrong so much. It allowed me to buy AAPL at ridiculously cheap prices.

Is there a US Congress Stock Holdings tracker available anywhere?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2018 05:50 AM PDT

After listening to NPR yesterday they mentioned all members of Congress must report trades made after 45days. Might be a useful research tool if the data is shown the right way.

    Thoughts on NVAX?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2018 01:22 PM PDT

Relatively new to the stock market and have been researching a lot about penny type stocks. I know a majority of people say not listen to others online, but those same people are suggesting you to listen to them. I've seen multiple reports about this stocks potential to reach $7.50, but am not sure what to make of it. If anyone can politely or angrily give me their opinion it would be much appreciated.

[Question] How does the "expense ratio" work for an ETF (or Mutual Fund)?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2018 09:39 AM PDT

I have a fund that has an expense ratio (ER) of 0.2% yearly. How does the ETF fund get their money? Does the fund get the ER when I buy/sell the fund or does it come off of the top during the year on the back end on the fund's entire position? Thanks in advance.

Why is MU highly undervalued at current stock price?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2018 01:05 PM PDT

This is probably one of the best articles I have read in a while, exploring into reasons why MU is unable to breach the 52-62 $ range and how does the valuation compare with the rest of the industry

    https://seekingalpha-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/seekingalpha.com/amp/article/4197051-micron-sky-high-price-targets-justified

Even though evaluation models hardly predict the prices accurately in long term, there are some interesting insights and trends seen .

    $IQ signed deal with Nickelodeon

    Snapchat.

    Posted: 09 Aug 2018 02:45 PM PDT

They need to improve their gosh darn Android app cause no one's gonna use a pic only messaging app extensively if only 3/5 of their friends can reliably run it.

All the other social networks (including some of the more obscure ones) have near universal support, we bitch and moan, but TBH their apps' quality are among the best.

I bet a kid whose given a free $50 Android phone can run most messaging apps, Snapchat? Forget it. Not even Americans with $700 Android phones can run it properly.

Unacceptable for a company trying to compete with Twitter and Facebook.

    ELI5 the enterprise value formula?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2018 02:37 PM PDT

Why is the enterprise value calculated as the market capitalization plus debt minutes cash. Why is debt added and cash subtracted. Also, what is the point of calculating the enterprise value of a company.

Should I sell my tesla stock?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2018 09:33 PM PDT

I have 10 shares of tesla stock I purchased in 2013 for $140. With Musk's recent announcement of possible going private and cashing out shareholders at $420, I'm concerned my upside would be limited. If it doesn't happen then the stock could fall dramatically. With the stock currently at $370 my upside its limited to about 15 percent. I suppose it could eventually go past 420 in the future as well. would you guys hold or sell?

Investing website as an alternate for old google finance

    Posted: 09 Aug 2018 02:29 PM PDT

    Hello,

I have been developing and using this website with few of my programer buddies for few months. I used to like 'old' desktop google finance' and when google decided to retire it, out of complete frustration this project was born. I found few other folks in the web-forums who loved old-google-fin, so thought it was good idea to do it :)

Anyway decided to publish it and share it others. We borrowed most of the features like
    - recently-viewed stocks,
    - watchlist, charts,
    - top-movers/losers, news etc.
    - borrowed some features from finviz/yahoo-fin too.. :)

I had a method of scoring stocks based on technical indicators/volume/price-buckets I used to do in excel, so we codified it and call it signal-strength.

So if you liked using old google finance on desktop, give it a try.

Also we are looking to add more features, let me know what you would like to have. We are thinking of adding
    - email alerts
    - some-sort of model-portfolio based on some technical+fundamental programitic approach and track it and let people also vote on stocks to push it to model portfolio.

Interested? give it a try snaptrade.us

    Recommendations for diversifying ETFs?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2018 02:41 PM PDT

I recently opened a M1 account, and I want to purchase all Vanguard ETFs on it.

I'm planning on getting VOO (25%), VIOV (25%), VHT (25%), and VXF (25%). Anyone think I should raise the percentage on one and lower another? Or maybe recommend some other ETFs that I may have over looked? I'm opened to others that aren't Vanguard.

    Thank you.

Can someone explain buying stocks on sale?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2018 01:17 PM PDT

I understand that it is best to buy stocks when their price is less than their value, however is there anyway to actually know when that is the case, or is it more an instinct?

    Thoughts on $CTRL

    Posted: 09 Aug 2018 01:08 PM PDT

Seems like a good company, on the upswing, reasonably affordable for where they are at in their growth (45 P/E)

I think Smart Homes are the next big thing and they seem to have a great start on being the supplier of choice

    RUTH earnings

    Posted: 09 Aug 2018 12:10 PM PDT

Ruth Hospitality, the owners of Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, have their earnings sometime after the market today. I want the $30C 8/17, but something is telling me this short-term bull streak regresses.

Anyone got anything to sway me one way or another in 50 minutes?

Is there a tool or equation that can gauge how much purchase or sale of a stock must be made to influence the price?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2018 06:11 AM PDT

The title may be confusing, but I promise it's a serious question.

I was looking at $TM (Toyota) stock yesterday and noticed that for the majority of the day they traded at 127.05. During after hour trading the stock jumped up to 128.50.

I'm assuming the jump was because Toyota has very low volume and a large purchase can make the price jump like that.

Is there any equation or tool that exists that can forecast how large of a buy/sell would need to be to influence a specific change in the price of the stock?
