What are the steps to building a medical software solution in Canada? Struggling to find good documentation and/or guides.

    Posted: 08 Aug 2018 06:38 PM PDT

So I have a lot of experience in software (going on 2 years in industry) and in the medical field (3 years volunteer work, published research papers, myself performing cadaver dissection) and ultimately have decided that on my own time I want to start up a medical device business starting in software tools that will eventually evolve into an integrated device solution.

I however am struggling to find out what laws or documentation or whatever else I need to do in order to make this compliant, even just the software part and not the physical medical device part.

Like what do I need to do in order to get this off the ground and moving forward? Do I need to submit it to some regulatory authority? How can I do that if so and how much will it cost?

Like I am currently floating only on my own money that is barely existent because I just graduated from university.

I'd greatly appreciate any knowledge on the subject, thanks in advance :D!

    Meeting a business dev

    Literally brand new at this

    Posted: 08 Aug 2018 03:24 PM PDT

    Hi. Title. Actual first steps.

I'm hoping someone around here has some info for new people looking to start a business in Canada. I want to develop video games for a living. I can try to answer whatever questions you have here in this thread.

I feel like I only need a small-ish investment (I figure $50k should be plenty) from someone with money to get started. All I need is time and I don't have much of it working full-time.

    The basic answers you'll need:

    1. I am a software developer
    2. I am good at what I do
    3. I do it for a living full time (business/enterprise applications)
    4. I want to work on my own projects in a different market (video games)

I feel like you guys probably see these types of posts ten times a day (on a slow day) so please be gentle. I really just need to find my way toward securing an investment.

    I have a number of questions ...

    1. What kinds of investors are out there?
    2. What sort of deals will they want to make?
    3. I realize any investor is going to be looking for some sort of ROI, but how can that be measured in the video game business?
    4. What other sorts of things should I focus on if/when I build a business plan?
    5. How often do video game entrepreneurs look for completed (or mostly functional) titles to invest in?
    6. How much of the project should be complete before I even think about finding an investor?
    7. Should I think about pitching to publishers?
    8. How often are publishers open and receptive to new pitches?
    9. Is publishing the last step, or should I look into finding a publisher (if I don't self-publish) sooner than later?

… I think I've exhausted everything that's on the tip of my tongue, but I know there's more in there.

I'm ready to take the plunge and dive into my destiny as an independent game developer. Help me find my way to that goal.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Best Methods Regarding Future Equity For Seed Investors? Company is pre-valuation.

    Posted: 08 Aug 2018 11:52 AM PDT

I'm starting a company that requires about $250k for the point I am at now, which should get me to market (hardware). I have self funded $50k and I'm starting to feel the pinch personally, I have about $50k more I can self fund at the moment, and potential access to $100K-$125k from family and friends. I don't want to make the mistake of undervaluing revenue projections and get the "waterfall of dilution" which SAFE formulas cause if valued improperly. As the conservative valuation is $25M annual revenues and ideal circumstances is $250M annual revenues according to a very conservative vs a realistically-ideal projection.....I am having a hard time valuing the company with such drastic differences between conservative and ideal projections.

What are the best ways to get people to fill out marketing surveys? Willing to pay.

    Posted: 08 Aug 2018 08:46 AM PDT

What are the best ways to get people to fill out marketing surveys? I've got a product that is for software developers. I've posted a survey in a few forums, but I'm trying to get a high volume of responses (and also beta users). I'm will to pay, but need to specifically target software devs. I don't really care about other demographics like age, gender, etc. I'm just trying to figure out that this product will be as useful to developers as I think it will be. Any advice on paid survey services or successful strategies for getting a marketing survey filled out?

Having Trouble Finding an Engineer for my Startup.

    Posted: 08 Aug 2018 05:23 PM PDT

I've been looking through my network for available engineers that would want to co-found a startup. Not going to go into specifics, but I would want them to create an electric skateboard that can be controlled by a phone. Where should I go and look for a co-founding engineer? Another reason that it's hard for me is because I am 17. I would need development to be done by the end of Q4, and a prototype/mvp by October. It's not going to be really too much of a challenge (at least) since there are a lot of electric skateboards. Any advice on where to look and how?
