Posted: 10 Aug 2018 08:12 AM PDT Hey guys, I just wanted to thank everyone for all the wonderful advice you had to offer. I posted about having to do a sales presentation for my company in order to transfer over to the AE role and even though they didn't garner a huge response the answers that I did receive were extremely helpful! I look forward to posting more once I get into the swing of things! Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Boss Says I am Not "Hungry" Enough Posted: 10 Aug 2018 11:26 AM PDT To prove it, he called our other two sales people and asked them what their sales plan for the month and their bonus (%)- neither knew . What prompted this was saying that since the other two sales people make less base than me it means that they are hungrier than me so those calls just destroyed his argument and the look on his face was priceless. Anyways, we agreed on a 3 month probationary period at a set salary and bonus. At 2.5 months he does not like my results (fine-either do I) and that he needs to lower my salary in order for me to be more hungry. He always says weird shit, applying half of his brain, so I regularly challenge him because I'm tired of being thrown under the bus for his bullshit. Asked him to define what "hungry" means to him. I asked him how a hungrier Ohuma would write back different cold email than a non hungry Ohuma, and asked how my phone conversations change. He said that if I don't feel uncomfortable or feel like I'm risking then I won't succeed or be motivated. He wants to cut my salary, for one month, in half and I can only make it back if hit the sales target, which will likely be way too high. I said that he should triple my salary because if you're not risking something, you can't succeed... He tried to rationalize his position. I understand it. Lower salary commission may attract hungier sales people, but not better sales people. So interesting situation. Meet with him tomorrow to discuss the nature of this bonus conditions. This is not the U.S., in case you were wondering [link] [comments] |
I am backpacking in Australia and working as a door to door salesman for an electricity company Posted: 10 Aug 2018 02:07 AM PDT It's my first sales job ever and although I am not doing too bad I think there's a lot of tactics/techniques that I'm not aware of which would help me a lot, I mostly focus on building rapport and making the customers feel comfortable and trusting around me but there's lots of times when I feel I could've got the sale but I'm not too certain on the best way of closing it and also get many many people just not interested in what I'm saying. Any help would be welcome, thank you [link] [comments] |
Is it possible to have Salesforce at home? Posted: 10 Aug 2018 09:18 AM PDT Is it possible for an SDR or sales rep to have Salesforce at home and make calls from DIALSOURCE at home? Also have you seen it done [link] [comments] |
Play this song before next sales call. Jay Rock - Win Posted: 10 Aug 2018 09:47 AM PDT Play this song before next sales call https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JrO46CJd9ns What songs are your favorite pump up music? [link] [comments] |
So I have my first sales interview tomorrow Posted: 10 Aug 2018 05:58 AM PDT How do you answer the infamous "Sell me X" question? I'm nervous about it and like what if they ask something like "Sell me this bottle/apple/stapler"? Kinda hard to think at that moment about selling these kinda things. How do you guys think? I’m having trouble getting past the gatekeepers/secretaries Posted: 10 Aug 2018 10:18 AM PDT They all tell me to send an email to info@.... And I can't get them to pass me through It goes usually something like this. Hello, this is Ivan and I'm actually calling from America. I work for an America company and we do ... and I was wondering if you knew who I would talk too about forming a mutually beneficial partnership between our companies They normally ask what partnership. I give them a short pitch. They tell me to send an email, about 60% of the time I at the very least can get a name for whom to address the email too (so I can call next week and ask for the person). But calling back and asking for that person hasn't helped much either. The most I get is they leave a note for that person. What am I doing wrong? [link] [comments] |
How long did it take you to get a handle on sales? Posted: 09 Aug 2018 04:35 PM PDT Hey guys, Im just finishing my first week in an inside sales roll for a SaaS company. And its mostly been training but they put me on the phones for the first time yesterday and today. It wassss brutallll. I felt a little nervous. I struggled following the script and i didnt have a good flow on the phone. Anyways how long did it take you to find a comfort level and see yourself improving and making sales. Im trying to get an idea of what i should expect as I go along my first month. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Aug 2018 08:48 AM PDT I was terribly frustrated when I received 10 calls from a particular bank offering me personal loan, since yesterday morning Thought of shouting on them but then i imagined the smiles they would have had when they got my phone details [link] [comments] |
Proposal to provide a service? Posted: 10 Aug 2018 08:10 AM PDT Hey all, I often find that when I lose a bid/potential contract it is due to some crap such as the other companies providing tons of fluff, usually this is down to the proposal and how it comes across. Does anyone have a template they follow which they can share? I don't yet have a sales team who deal with this sort of thing so the buck starts and ends with me. If anyone has a order of information they follow that'd be most helpful. I'm sure this would help others too. x/entrepreneur & smallbusiness [link] [comments] |

Sued for non-compete. Didn't violate it. Posted: 09 Aug 2018 06:26 PM PDT I have a friend in sales at another company who had a non-compete for a given geographic area and industry. He moved out of that geography, got a job in the same industry, and has been involved in a lawsuit with his former employer. He hasn't had any contact with his previous customers, works in an area the former employer doesn't do any business in, but is now 10s of thousands of dollars in debt in lawyers fees across two different states. The entire suit should have been thrown out, IMO. Has anyone here experienced this? Did he just get horrible representation? Why would his former company go after him (he was the number one salesperson in his region)? And does he have any recourse to hurt them back? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Aug 2018 05:36 AM PDT Hi all, I just finished an internship at a big tech company where I did not like the location and culture so I have decided not to work there full time. I have been looking around and i got an interview for a recruiting position at signature consultants, and IT staffing firm. I'm not too knowledgable on the staffing industry, but for someone who has internship experience at a fortune 500 tech company, I'm thinking I should stay away. Am I correct in this assumption? Is a recruiting role like copier sales where if u do it for a year or 2 it opens doors? Or is it like getting pigeon-holed? What are your thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Aug 2018 04:23 PM PDT I wasn't sure whether or not this was legal for companies to do I'm required to be at meetings every morning at 830am every week day and occasional Saturdays. Every now and then we also are required to attend full day meetings. I am 100% commission and none of these meetings are paid. Is this legal? This is my first real sales job and wasn't sure if this was standard or not [link] [comments] |
Career Pivot - Electrical Supplies -> Medical Capital Equipment / Dental Supplies / MedTech Posted: 09 Aug 2018 06:12 PM PDT I'm looking for some direction to make a sales career pivot. I've scoured through r/sales and read a lot of feedback here and elsewhere in regards to medical & surgical device sales. This was the area I thought I wanted to attempt to break into but would like some additional input. My background: mid-30s, grew up in a family retail business, sales jobs all my life from cell phones to Architectural Engineering & Construction software (10+ years ago), and my most recent and longest stint, working as an outside regional sales manager for an electrical supplies manufacturer. Electrical supplies manufacturers sell through partner rep agencies, which sell to distributors, who in turn ship product to job sites or sell over their counter from stock. My role has been selling product to distributors into stock & sell over their counters. What I like about my current job:
What I don't like about my current job:

Posted: 09 Aug 2018 11:06 PM PDT So I have only been in sales for 7 years and I feel like I have only scratched the surface. I have been appointed to train someone who has zero sales experience. My 1st week of training is supposed to be "On the sales mentality" I figure I would start with the idea of learning to ask the right questions. I was told by my Senior Manager that training the new person would without a doubt improve my own sales. Any helpful suggestions? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Aug 2018 05:27 PM PDT Anyone have any experience in selling solar panels? What is the average commission on a closed deal? I have seen that California and Colorado and generally the west is where solar is most popular. I got a call about a hiring event in Denver, CO next week for a sales rep position and really trying to decide if it is a good industry to get into or not, I heard top sales reps make around 80-150k a year. Negotiating salary after recruiter already profiled me? Posted: 09 Aug 2018 05:10 PM PDT Hi Everyone! I just got off the phone with a recruiter and they mentioned that I'd be getting an offer soon but he'd like to talk compensation. When he originally approached me for this position, he mentioned that he had me profiled at 65k base plus commission and a company vehicle. This was a few weeks ago. After I spoke with the recruiter today after confirming that the last interview went well and I'd be getting an offer, he mentioned that the business owner started the offer at 50k and 5% gross commission. Now my job right now is in the same industry, I'm making 40k base with a commission range of 0.1 to 5.0% with 2.0% being the average. I also have a company car here and was given a 7k guarantee last year when I started. I'd like the 65k base and I know with that, I'd be getting a lower commission percentage. The recruiter said that they'll arrange a call with the business owner and I so that we can discuss this. Any advice that you guys can offer would be great. [link] [comments] |
Prospecting without a company email? Posted: 09 Aug 2018 01:23 PM PDT Long story short, my company's small. There are only three of us and I was just hired to help grow the company in terms of sales. I'm wondering - I need to send prospecting emails to our old leads (which we don't have their phone or anything else other than their email) but my company doesn't have a company domain in place so typically we all use our personal here. I think this will affect response rate and appearance of being a legit company? What are some creative ways I can still prospect with having to do with a personal email inbox? (Do people still read letters that come through the mail?) Thanks! :-) [link] [comments] |
Is it worth taking a "demotion" for potential long-term growth? Posted: 09 Aug 2018 03:14 PM PDT Right now I work for a small software company (~12 Mill in Rev) as an Account Exec. I've only been here for 2 years, from out of school, promoted from SDR, BDR to AE. At the moment I am carrying a million dollar quota for the year, and I am on target to hit it. I get paid really well, however, I am tired of it, we sell a mediocre product, and I am not learning that much anymore. I have an offer from a well-known tech Company X (valued at over 1 Billion), but due to only my 2 years of experience they see me as a BDR. I will probably have to take a 5-10% paycut to work for Company X. Essentially what I am asking, is it worth it? On one hand, I think Company X will continue to grow, and their are more long term opportunities, however at the same time, I am more or less taking a demotion. [link] [comments] |
SaaS opportunities for a Channel Sales Guy [Austin or.. elsewhere] Posted: 09 Aug 2018 10:41 PM PDT For starters, thanks in advance for your help.. let's see if I can avoid doxing myself. I'm a former inside sales rep turned channel manager within the enterprise software space (specifically xxM). I left my company about a year ago having spent a year in Europe and a year at HQ. Returning home to Texas has been anything but green pastures. Despite my performance, references, and legacy of double-digit growth within territory: Americas (ProServices ran strictly through SI partners; VARs accounted for ~30% of sales), I keep striking out. I've had companies consider my time overseas a red flag, me walking away from successful progression a red flag, and sales managers (unfamiliar with multi-tier distro models) insist there is no closing element to partner development/channel sales. Did I mention the gaggle of junior, blue-chip recruiters who routinely reach out (via LinkedIn), before immediately ghosting? I shouldn't be bitter, most avoid risk when it comes to getting their nut. Ahead of I'm hungry to learn, bring value, and make some friggin' ducats along the way. For the curious, I've spent the bulk of this time off reading. When I'm not reading, I'm attending webinars. When I'm not attending webinars, I'm watching the market. When I'm not watching the market, I'm contemplating the mundanity of my dismal existence. [link] [comments] |
Anyone heard of Norseman Global Inc.? Posted: 09 Aug 2018 10:13 PM PDT So I had an interview with CEO Erik Lickiss today at the Peoria, IL. office today, which apparently has only been there since May. The company supposedly started in the "Chicago Suburbs" last year some time and is sprouting 100 new locations due to unlimited funding on behalf of Xfinity Comcast. 100% commission based to start, doing "mainly promotions and events". An example he gave of the work is standing around in places like Walmart and trying to sell Xfinity to people. He also claims they want to fast track people - entry level people applying for this sales/marketing position - to upper management in a period of roughly 20 weeks, for the sake of running these 100 new locations. I found the listings (there were many) on Zip Recuiter. I also found some for equally new marketing firms that sounded equally vague. If I'm called for a second interview I think I might take it. As hollow and sketchy as this place may be, I want to get as much true info about this place as I can. [link] [comments] |
