Posted: 05 Jul 2018 08:38 PM PDT Feel free to ignore this post. I just need to vent. So I passed the CPA exam last week. I did well, scores over 90 on all 4 parts on my first try. I felt absolutely nothing when I got the news. There was no relief that I wasn't going to have to torture myself more, and there was no sense of accomplishment, no happiness. With that done I've accomplished every goal I set out for myself in college. And it feels so empty. I'll be starting with a Big 4 soon, and I like accounting. I just don't know what to do to make myself happy. I know that throwing myself into a Big 4 job is a good way to remove yourself from the outside world, and that's part of the allure to me. If I can just throw myself into an 80+ hour workweek, I won't have to face the idea that I don't like myself, or my life, or the people around me. If I just work as hard as I possibly can, and forget that there's an outside world, maybe I can forget how profoundly unhappy I am. I've noticed that I'm drinking more. Almost every night now. Maybe that will keep my mind quiet. [link] [comments]
[CAN] [CPA PEP] July 2018 CORE 1 EXAM thoughts? Posted: 05 Jul 2018 03:06 PM PDT How did you guys find the exam? I'm pretty sure it'll be a common theme but I thought the case was reasonable while the MCQ was really challenging. Hoping the curve on the MCQ is enough to get me through.. On a side note, I bet the exam writers had a good chuckle when we had 8 weeks plus an orientation and module case of rev rec practice cases only to NOT see rev rec on the exam case. 🤦🏻♂️ [link] [comments]
[CAN] Questions about Capstone 1 presentation Posted: 05 Jul 2018 06:48 PM PDT What kind of questions does the board ask? Do they take up the entire 15 minutes to ask questions? How in depth do they ask about your financials? I heard it's almost impossible to fail, is this true? Any advice in general? [link] [comments]
When an accounting student gets his eyes checked. Posted: 05 Jul 2018 05:58 PM PDT I had an eye appointment the other day and for whatever reason the name for the letter O wasn't coming to mind. I said "Zero," to which my optometrist asked if I was studying accounting or finance. [link] [comments]
Just took AUD...and I don't know how to feel Posted: 05 Jul 2018 05:52 PM PDT I took AUD today and I have no idea if I did well enough to get that 75. The MC was alright. A lot of compilation and review questions, which I beat into my brain. The rest seemed to be mixed bag for the most part. I saw a couple employee benefit plan ones. I didn't study those at all but what's done is done. What really sucked was the sims. Although I did pretty well on them on the practice tests, some of them were really subjective and could've gone either way. I finished an hour and a half early and I was trending 90% and above for the week leading up to it. While these seem to be good signs, there seems to be a common consensus that if you finish early or feel like you've aced it, you probably fell short. Now for FAR, but tonight...I get wasted. Posted: 05 Jul 2018 11:59 AM PDT Hi all, I'm currently working for one of the Big4 in the US as a tax manager and have an opportunity to move to the UK (London) to work in the US tax practice for one of the Big4. I noticed though that the salaries for accountants in the UK seem to be much lower than in the US. For example, tax managers (in public) will start at about $105K but in London it seems like the average is about $83K (63K GBP). Given London's high cost of living, I thought it would be higher? I know healthcare is free (or nearly free) in the UK which would help with the difference but are there any other social benefits for residents? I would love to travel to other parts of Europe so the proximity and cheaper airfare seems to be a perk. Working in London for a couple of years seems like a once in a lifetime opportunity for me but the large pay cut and increased cost of living is giving me second thoughts. Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated! [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Jul 2018 08:32 PM PDT Hey r/accounting, Looking for help on passing my last CPA section, AUD. I've been using only exam matrix and I successfully went 3/3 on FAR, REG, and BEC. Unfortunately, I failed my latest section, AUD, with a 74. I'm a little worried that if I buy Exam matrix again, I will just be memorizing the problems and not actually absorbing the info. Furthermore, I think Exam matrix was purchased by another company a while back because the layout of the website completely changed and there are now significantly less MCQ's available than there was before when I was studying FAR and REG. So my questions are this:
Any other advice or help to get over the 74 hump and join the CPA club would be appreciated. Thanks!! [link] [comments]
[CAN] [PEP] [Core 2] Is it normal to have found the MCQ an absolute shitshow? Posted: 05 Jul 2018 02:15 PM PDT I took the exam yesterday. The case went okay, but I can't say the same for MCQ. I know nobody knows how much weight each part carries, but here's where I hope that the case is weighed more, and the MCQ is curved to my favour. I found that many of the strategy and governance MCQ were easy because they were short. But my concern is whether I got enough management accounting MCQ correct. I'd hate to fail because of the MCQ section. This honestly felt harder than core 1, and I'm actually horrified to get the result. Who's in the same boat? [link] [comments]
How much problem solving in Accounting? Posted: 05 Jul 2018 08:00 PM PDT I'm about to go into my 3rd year of my Accounting degree. I am wondering how much actual problem solving goes into the day to day of being an Accountant? I was about to switch to computer science because I felt there would be more of that there. My fear is being disgustingly bored at work with the mundane routine. [link] [comments]

OOTL / ELI5: What is going on with KPMG recently? Posted: 05 Jul 2018 10:07 AM PDT I've seen some posts and articles about KPMG recently and maybe something about legal trouble? What's going on? [link] [comments]
Best way to review FAR (w/ Becker) Posted: 05 Jul 2018 07:21 AM PDT Hey /r/Accounting, I just went through the Becker F1-F10 for the first time and I'm looking for what are some of the best ways to maximize a review of everything for my test in 2 weeks. Of course, I'm going to complete the mock exams and see what areas to focus in on most, but would it be wise to review simulations or just hammer multiple choice q's? (I don't have the final review) [link] [comments]
Just took FAR. How should I feel? Posted: 05 Jul 2018 09:45 AM PDT Took FAR once and got a 71. Took a break from studying then started again for about 7 weeks and busted my ass with it. There were a couple questions I had to 50/50 guess on and one part of a sim that i didn't have 100% confidence in because of time. But for the most part I felt like it went pretty well (compared to the first time i took it and felt awful afterwards). Now I am freaking out because I feel like if I studied this hard and felt this well after and if I still don't pass then there is absolutely no hope. [link] [comments]
Tomorrow I will be shadowing A/R. Posted: 05 Jul 2018 07:19 AM PDT I will get to finally shadow someone from the accounting world tomorrow. I was just wondering if anyone has experience in Accounts Receivable , what it is that they generally do? I know to take notes and ask questions and that is not an issue because this is a dream come true, but if anyone has some extra advice that would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments]
Busy Season Internship...Advice? Posted: 05 Jul 2018 05:40 PM PDT Hi all, I recently accepted an internship for next spring (January-March) in audit. I will be a junior at college this coming year - taking Advanced, Info Systems, and Business Law. The firm is small (about 60 people) but is one of the biggest/most popular in the area. Does anyone have any advice for me before I start? I'm hoping to learn more about Excel during my Info Systems class...I've done very well in my past accounting classes, but I'm worried it won't translate to the real world. Any advice is appreciated, thanks! [link] [comments]

Posted: 05 Jul 2018 03:14 AM PDT Hey everyone I am a 22 year old guy with a degree in economics. After finishing my degree I applied to internal audit internship, where i currently am a year later. I know face a huge dilema and I would like your honest opinion on the matter: I applied to a masters degree in accounting, taxation and corporate finance and was successfully accepted. This was in January. Last week I received a proposition to work at a Big4 in internal auditing. (Bear in mind, I actually like audit alot and I am thinking on pursuing this area in the future). So my question is: what do you guys think? Should I continue my studies or just embrace this new job opportunity? I apologize in advance for any spelling errors, english is not my native language. Thank you! [link] [comments]
TAXES on Dependent college student Posted: 05 Jul 2018 04:18 PM PDT Student with over $25K. If I put 7500 in stocks, would it affect my Financial aid? Would the I.r.S know I have this invested? I won't realize any gain until 10 yes from know. Would dividends affect me, in terms of reporting them because I know at least in CA that if your a dependent student under 24 yrs and makes less than $4,500 then you won't have to report it. This is correct. If you'd be kind to help me clarify these concerns I'd appreciate it very much. If you need any more information please don't hesitate. Thank you for the advice and clarification. Leaving after a year in public Posted: 05 Jul 2018 07:47 AM PDT Sorry I'm not sure how to link my previous post on mobile. I posted about leaving before. I want to leave public after a year so I have the experience but can take the CPA exams later on my own time. Anybody here do this or leave public after a year? Would love to hear the input of what job you took after and why you left your public firm. Thanks!! Edit: figured out how to link that previous post as it better explains my life and lifestyle.
