    AC unit stolen, homeowners insurance?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 09:44 AM PDT

The house is vacant, we are under contract and ready to close and boom our outside AC unit (3.5 ton condenser compressor etc) got stolen at some point over the past few days.

I have dwelling coverage with $1000 deductible.

I have filed a police report, submitted the claim online to my homeowners insurance.

Having never filed an insurance claim and I cant speak with them until the July 4th holiday is over, what can I expect? Timeline?

We are meant to close in 14 days, I'm assuming there Is no way we can meet this deadline.

Any comments or feedback would great. Sorry if this seems all over the place....I feel so rattled right now.

Can you get third-party insurance for a move?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 08:54 PM PDT

    Hello,

I'm moving to Toronto next month and am hiring movers to ship my items. I was disappointed to learn that apparently its common-place that movers will not provide insurance for any items that they don't pack, only for the larger non-boxed items like couches, tables, etc.

Packing services are quite expensive, so I was wondering if its possible to purchase separate insurance, like you would apartment contents insurance, to protect against damage or theft while it's being transported and stored.

I'm mostly worried about my bigger ticket items like TV, stereo system, computer, guitar, etc, probably $8000 worth of value.

Is this something that is possible and if so, would be it expensive?

    Thanks.

confused with insurance payment and mortgage company

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 01:08 PM PDT

    Location: colorado

    insurance: state farm

    mortgage: bank of america

We were hit with a sever hail storm that damaged our roof, shed, and chicken coop [various small items outside also].

State farm is sending 2 checks; $1000 for some small personal damage like a BBQ grill, and a large check of 28k for the roof, shed, and the chicken coop.

Question 1: why would they roll the shed and chicken coop into the large check when it was not part of the property when we purchased it? we paid and built for these two items.

Question 2: will we be forced to repair/replace the shed and chicken coop as we would rather get rid of the chickens and not worry about the shed?

Thank you and sorry if this belongs in another sub, I wasn't sure...

    Confused with co-pay and deductible?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 02:55 PM PDT

I recently went to a in- network urologist which I know counts as a spealist. I have Florida blue hmo plan through work. That clearly states it is a $45 co-pay. After the very quick visit. The receptionist says that it will be $165 out of my deductible? Why was it not the spealist co-pay for $45? Just new at this system and could use some input. Thank you for any advice!

Edit: Specialist* I messed that one up

Subrogation of 14K+ dollars, 19 years old, advice?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 10:12 AM PDT

Hello my name is Daniel I live in a high income area in SW Fl(my family is not high income). I am 19 years old and I received a letter saying that I owed $14,754 to Allstate, the insurance of the other party in the accident that occurred in early February including my insured vehicle.

The letter basically said that either the insurance I had during the accident is paying or you are. I was very shocked when I received it because they was no warning I believed the case was closed. In the accident I was not driving. The real driver was stopped at a green light, waiting for cars to pass so she could cross the road and turn left. The other party had their turn signal flashing and the driver made a bad call.

I made a mistake and let someone drive who wasn't actually ready(she only had a driving permit). This means in the police accident report claims the driver at fault but the car is mine and now I had to deal with my insurance company(Insurance 1) and claims for the first time in my life. When I called the claims number I was told that the driver wasn't on some list in my policy(I forgot what it's called) and that they were going to terminate my policy. After that I had to find a new insurance agency(Insurance 2). My monthly payment rose from $142/month to $242/momth and I am barely paying that. I tried calling my Insurance agency today, but it's the fourth of July and everyone said lets drink the whole town dry. They are closed so I will try again tomorrow and see if I have to pay for this grand total myself or if it can be negotiated to a lot lower or very small payments a month because my family is poor and I go to school and have a job. It's tough rn but does anyone have any experience or advice on what I could do right now? I thought it was all over but this nightmare has returned. Appreciate all feedback.

Settlement Range If A Semi Truck Accident Puts You Out Of Work Forever?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 02:01 PM PDT

I know that there's a lot of factors but I was just wondering on if someone had a medical condition to where a semi truck condition aggravated it intensely to where the individual is unable to work anymore when they were able to work prior. Is an offer of 8,000 even reasonable if the following individual cannot work for the rest of their lives? Thank you.

Scratched and dented rental car in single-car accident in parking lot

    Posted: 04 Jul 2018 08:02 AM PDT

Hi all, I had a single-car accident in a parking lot. I was driving a rental car. I caught the side along a stone wall and it left a long scratch and slight dent on one side.

My car rental 'collision damage plan' insurance was purchased through Expedia from AIG insurance. $0 deductible – that's why I bought the insurance from Expedia and not the rental company.

The car rental company assessed the damage at €500 (it happened in Belgium). As the insurance was provided through Expedia, and not through them, they billed my credit card. I am now filing a claim with AIG.

However, I did not report the accident to the police. Will this be a problem when claiming? Am I likely to be covered?

I'd be grateful for your advice. I hope I have included enough detail. Thanks.

[TX] How does out-of-network care really work on Aetna STAR Medicaid? 7 mos pregnant w/ GDM and recently moved.

    Posted: 03 Jul 2018 08:43 PM PDT

I submitted a change of address to TX Medicaid in mid-May but they will not activate my new local plan until August 1st. Until then either I have to drive back to my former city 3-4 hours away for appointments or see local providers out of network. I asked what the process is like for that and all Aetna will tell me is 1) there is no pre-authorization possible for out of network care and 2) if an out of network provider submits a claim it will be initially denied but can be approved on appeal. Unless I want to pay out of pocket up-front I need to find a provider willing to go through the claim and appeal process, potentially risking nonpayment (and shifting financial responsibility to me). I am working with a medical case manager and neither of us has yet been able to find a non-emergency provider willing to do out of network billing & appeal. I was recently diagnosed with gestational diabetes and due to my glucose measures the previous doctor wants me to start on insulin and regular monitoring (NSTs, etc.). It would not be healthy for me to travel long distances in my condition but I feel like I am running out of other options. There are some sliding scale clinics; still I could be looking at $140+ per appointment which adds up quickly. How does the out of network claims process really work on Aetna STAR Medicaid? Is there anything I can do to improve the odds such claims will be paid and to convince providers they are a safe bet? Thanks in advance for your help!

    Need Guidance on Car Accident

    Posted: 03 Jul 2018 06:22 PM PDT

    Background:

On June 15, 2017, nearing dusk, I was driving a 2012 Honda Fit to a restaurant with my fiance, in the passenger seat, and my nine month old daughter in the back seat (passenger side). I was driving down a two lane road, maybe 45 mph, approaching a cross street. Another car (Late 80s, early 90s steel truck) was heading in my direction. The approaching car attempted to make a left turn onto the cross street in front of me and did not yield to me. I swerved right thinking he might see me and jerk back into his lane, and also to shield my family from the inevitable collision, in case he didn't.

The front left of our car smashed into the front right of the Truck. It was somewhere in between a head on collision and a T-Bone. My right foot was hard braced against the brake pedal, my left forearm was planted on the center of the steering wheel with my left hand at the 12 o'clock position, as I was attempting to make a sharp 2 handed right turn. Everyone had a seat belt on.

The other driver admitted fault, was issued a citation by the police and presented insurance. He was a young kid, maybe early 20s, and looked like he was from the labor class. Myself and family where all taken to the hospital via ambulance.

My leg and ankle shattered. I had contact bleeding on my face, arms, knees and legs. The Honda emblem on the steering wheel branded itself onto my forearm. I had 5 inch wide bruising, dark dark bruising, along the path of the seat belt, across my stomach, across my chest, and around my left shoulder. My shoulder would was particularly deep, as that was where the seat belt really burrowed through my skin. I had a thick hemotoba just to the left of my right breast from the seat belt. I was released from the hospital 2 days later after surgery. My wife and daughter sustained no major injuries to speak of and were released a few hours after arriving.

I was unable to walk for many months. Bed ridden, pee bottle, can't play with my daughter, no wife nooky. I had a physical therapist come to my home for 10-12 sessions. One follow up surgery after initial reconstruction at the ER. The doctor tells me I have a chance to develop arthritis and need more surgeries. I am an accountant, and was able to work from home, and continue to collect my salary. Once I was able to walk again, I needed crutches and today I down to a limp. Still have pain on every step. Permanent scarring on my forearm and wrist, and also from the surgery scars on my leg.

    Other Facts:

    - My primary car, 2012 Focus (of which I own), is insured under my Dad's State Farm policy, of which I am listed as principal driver and not named insured. Comprehensive coverage.

    - I was driving my fiance's 2012 Honda Fit (of which she owns), full coverage with Nationwide.

-At fault driver, presented coverage from Federated National Insurance (looked like his parents policy). We later received written notification on our claim that the policy had been terminated at midnight, the night before the accident.

    - I had ~50k in medical bills, both daughter and wife had ~5k each, of which our health insurance paid.

-State Farm denied my uninsured motorist / PIP claim and said I was not designated as insured because I did not live with my parents.

-Nationwide paid off the Honda Fit and is currently dealing with my health insurers subragation claims, although they will not make any payments without my say so.

-Nationwide tells me I am probably due 55k or so in pain and suffering damages. With that + the medical bills I am approaching the coverage limit of my claim (100k).

This is about as far as I have gotten without an attorney.

I honestly do not know if I should just take the 55k and walk or I should hire an attorney who could possibly get more, but will take 20/30/40% depending on how far it goes. Would attorney take a custom arrangement, such as, I am guaranteed my 55k, but he can have 50% of whatever else he can get?
