    Tell us about your startup!

/r/startups wants to hear what you're working on! Contest mode is on, so remember to select 'Show All' to see all the replies. If you don't see your post, you probably need to load more comments at the bottom. Also, all posts are sorted randomly, so the sort function doesn't seem to work.

How do you choose the right people for your startup team?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2018 02:49 PM PDT

    Hello Redditors,

I was wondering, based on what criteria do you choose people (cofounders, developers, marketers, etc.) to start your startup with?

What are your criteria for not selecting some people?

What are the most important things when it comes to creating a good working environment?

And, what are the things that maintain a good working environment?

I would love to hear both success stories and the stories about how you failed to create a good working environment.

Looking for dev to join Gaming/Coaching platform side-project to help grow

    Posted: 02 Apr 2018 02:29 AM PDT

I'm looking for a developer who is interested in helping build/grow a gaming platform and revolved around helping players improve in the compeititve gaming scene.

    • So what is the project? Ok so here is the idea: We're a community driven project that players can pay to submit their ingame replay to a coach. This can be from different games such as Rocket League or Fortnite. The coach would then analyse and provide feedback, tips and advice for them to improve on, all in video/spoken format. A bit like they do on TV after a football match and analyse what went well/wrong. This idea is still new and we're the first to be bringing this out in this way. We would take a small cut of the transactions to pay for running costs, growth plans, marketing, event sponsoring and so on.

    • What is the Progress / backing so far? So far we are working the core platform but have some small technical problems (where you would be involved) such as automated emails going on spam. We're a team of 3, and have some mid sized gaming YouTubers (and a growing network of plenty more) who will be advertising this platform once it's all up and running. We have a clear plan to get the first few thousand players join the community (only 50 currently) and the inventive for coaches to join in are there with financial benefits clearly laid out from the start.

    • Why is this needed / What about competition? Coaches could do this independenty of course, or using existing services like GamerSensei but we think we have a unique growth plan.. but yeah, would love to talk in more detail if you'd be interested.

    • Want to join this project? If you have some spare time and think this sounds fun feel free to PM here on Reddit.

    App idea, dealing with competition

    Posted: 01 Apr 2018 08:09 PM PDT

So today i decided to do research on an idea that i have, and found out that an app that is pretty much like my idea already exists.

Now i know that the fact that your idea already exists isn't fatal, but does the same apply to apps?

As issues with patents etcetera are more present.

Now this app has 500k+ downloads, is picked as editors choice by google play and a lot of positive reviews.

But on the other hand, it doesn't have a IOS app, it's founders are based in china, the app is in english but the support form on their site for example is in chinese.

Should i let this idea go or do i still stand a chance? For example by focussing on ios and the dutch/european market

What's a good email/subject line to start a conversation line with your power users?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2018 01:12 AM PDT

I'm looking to begin dialog with some new power users of my app, but don't know the best way to approach it. These users are using the app either daily or almost daily.

I'm working with subject lines like this at the moment:

Anything you want to see in [App name]?

I'd love to hear your feedback - [App Name]

    Hope you're enjoying [App Name]

Within the email I am currently asking if they have any feedback or would like to see any new features within the app. I'd really love to hear some feedback/experience with beginning email discussions with your users.

How can a Streetwear app work on marketing our app and Instagram two months before launch?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2018 12:00 AM PDT

We are creating a Streetwear Marketplace app and we have some dedicated users, 12 user emails, and 4k followers on Instagram. We are blanked out on how to get more interaction and active users, so when we launch we can have a decent amount of users and grow.

The startup is a team of four, and strictly using Instagram as Facebook is a dying marketing for 16-30 year olds. How can we work on gaining more active users for a successful launch? It's difficult to market an app that isn't released yet...

We originally used basic paid marketing to gain traction on our Instagram and it helped gain alot of traction. The interaction falls off majorly when we stop. I read somewhere that people don't want to be told to "download our app" or talk about the app so we post streetwear related pictures. We have done giveaways and got 20 entries, but out of 4k followers, that's not the best. We have contacted big YouTube accounts and media outlets related to our app, and receive nothing.

So what can we do to boost ourselves and later on to be successful?

Marketplace startup. Not sure where to get other half of users from

    Posted: 01 Apr 2018 06:35 AM PDT

I run a mentorship marketplace which connects mentors and mentees

For the past few months, I've been working on getting engaged and high-profile mentors. As of now, we have 22 mentors, offering spots for more than 120 mentees. I thought that this was the sparse resource - mentees would come after sometime.

However, now after launch, only a few mentorship relations have been established. I don't know where to get mentees from. I contacted coding bootcamps last week to ask for collaboration and waiting for that. I also asked in /r/learnprogramming.

I am starting to get users, but little activity so far

    Posted: 01 Apr 2018 03:54 PM PDT

    Hey guys,

Thought I'd post here to see if I can get some advice. So I started a digital wallet company. Ive used some banner ads on websites in this niche to promote it, and I was succesful in getting about 25 users so far (which I'm pretty happy with to start).

Now my issue is, no one has deposited anything. And if I have no transactions, I have no revenue. I specifically focused on faucet websites because I was thinking they would need somewhere to deposit soon. But nothing yet, which seems odd.

So I'm trying to determine whats going on. Anybody have any input for me?

    Thank you :)

What should I be doing while my website is being built?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2018 03:09 AM PDT

I'm in the process of setting up a review website. The site is being built at the moment, my designer estimates it should be ready in approximately 4 weeks.

Is there anything I can or should be doing myself while the site is being created? I'm feeling a bit lost at the moment! I've set up my social media accounts but do want to be posting much content on them until I have a site fans can visit.

I will be directly adding businesses myself to the site so I don't need to be contacting companies about that.

I don't want to approach potential advertiser's until the site has been online for a few months so that I can provide stats for site visits.

Is there anything else I can be doing now?
