    New subreddit r/ConsiousBusiness

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 07:29 AM PDT

I started a new subreddit about Conscious Business. Articles of interest to Conscious Business Entrepreneurs.

Conscious business enterprises and people are those that choose to follow a business strategy, in which they seek to benefit both human beings and the environment. The Conscious Business movement in the US, which emerged from the theory of corporate social responsibility, pushes for "values-based" economic values where values represent social and environmental concerns at both global and local scales. This effort is related to not-just-for-profit business models, conscious consumerism, and socially responsible investing.

I've made my business a conscious business and I want to learn from the community on how to do that better and with more impact.

I am 18 years old and I have a few ideas about starting a new business, but I don't know how. Can somebody leave me tips or points me to any website where I can learn more?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 11:53 AM PDT

As I said, I am a 18 year old teenager from Central Europe and I have some ideas that include fitness or image consulting. If i would point out 1 idea, it would be something like Fitness for youth, because I believe there are not enough sources for begginers and young people in this field.

I was thining about starting a niche website or a blog related to that and then somehow continue with merchandise or maybe online coaching.

Can somebody recommend me any books, websites or maybe leave me some tips about starting a business like this? Thanks.

Dealing with severe depression/toxic parents and family member! Any tips?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 08:58 AM PDT

    Hi,

I am currently suffering from burnout, depression. This is not related or directed due to my business or startup but due to my toxic parents and family member who are constantly yelling and being pain in the ass for me. They scold me for for not doing the job..

How to fix my life as my depression level is going through roof.. I need to calm myself down but finding it difficult to do.. How do you deal with such instances? How do you deal with daily family issues? How to keep myself stable..

Edit: I want to add that I from India where there is a culture that son will live with them and take care of them.. So yes this is why stay at home even though I can easily move out.. But they will become alone..

Customer wants a workflow that is not PCI compliant. Advice?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 11:50 AM PDT

    Hey folks,

My company provides income verification services for tenant applicants for rental properties. We have a mid-sized property management company that wants our software integrated into their website. We are building a custom solution for them and they want something that is not PCI compliant. They want us to capture an applicant's credit card information and send it to them to manually process later.

I'm a developer, and currently use Stripe, so I understand how card tokenization and the api works. However, seems like I need full details of the card for our customer to process later (including saving the CVV, big no no!). I can delete data as soon as the the information is sent over to our customer, but I believe that still is non-compliant.

It's really unfortunate, this is our first big customer and the less friction we have, the better. But I don't want to get fined out my asshole by the credit card companies. What do you guys think? Should we explain to the customer honestly about how their workflow would break PCI compliance and try to work with them? Anybody been in this situation before? Maybe even be non-PCI compliant in order to close the deal, then make changes to be PCI compliant? I would really hate to lose this customer.

    Let's build a startup

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 01:08 PM PDT

I have an interesting thought that I would like to put forward to the Reddit Community. I see many talented people with many great ideas and varying skillsets, however many of us are solopreneurs with varying experience and are often missing crucial aspects of functioning businesses to make it a success, why not work together and build something? As an experiment It would be interesting to take 5-10 people, put our skillsets and resources together and build something. Essentially a remote co-op business where we work together for mutual benefit. This if course is a rough concept, but for example - we could build a startup, an e-commerce business, a new product or service. (Preferably for me it would likely be tech-oriented) Would anyone be interested? If So I have created a Slack Workspace here to chat, share your experiences and what you could bring to the team and any ideas you wish to explore.

Edit: 2 members and counting, if you are talented and have an idea or an itch to build something, please join us!

Give me a some information on what you are looking for and some text, images and prices you want on the page. I can't promise anything great, but I will do my best :)

How important is packaging design to your business?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 12:55 PM PDT

I've been researching a lot about packaging design lately, and i've never really realized the importance of having kick-ass packaging. Not to mention the $$ that can be saved if designed in a way that can reduce postage costs.

For example, check out bloom & wild - The business that delivers flowers through your letterbox. This surely reduces postage costs and also guarantees the customer won't miss a delivery. Genius.

The more i learn, the more i realize how much value this can bring to a business of any kind.

What are your experiences with this? Did you spend a lot of time on your packaging or do you just see it as a way to get your product form A to B?

    Product for squeaky doors

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 12:53 PM PDT

    Hi friends,

I'd like to bounce an idea off you for critique. Basically a sticker that you stick to a squeaky door hinge which stops the squeakyness. Currently people would use wd40 (if they have ) or wax etc. Basically a simple solution for the unhandy and bothered by their squeaky door hinges.

Tldr , squeaky door hinge? Stick this thing on the hinge and it goes away forever. 3 for $1 or something

    Thanks

Best methods and services to use for advertising

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 12:23 PM PDT

    Hello /r/Entrepreneur

I am new to this subreddit. I am interested in hearing ways how to promote our products for free as well as cost effective methods.

Background: We have recently launched our website- Allthingsgarage.com We are a garage storage company that specializes in utilizing the wasted space in a garage. Recently this year we released our new product the 'Tote Slide'. We have several more new and innovative products being released later this year.

With that said, I am looking forward to your feedback! Thanks!

Update: We are currently advertising via Facebook Ads and started to reach out to influencers on social media. We tried Google Ads but we were not receiving any orders and it didn't seem worth it.

You have no particular passions, interests, or things you love to do. Your main asset is hard work and endurance, as well as a couple thousand bucks to invest. What business do you start?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 11:33 AM PDT

Thats my situation. I really don't have anything in particular I'd love to do. The most exciting job in the world to me is being my own boss, no matter what the business actually is.

I have an insane work ethic (I know I know everyone says that but whatever) and already work night and day in shitty retail and service jobs. I can handle heavy lifting, heat, long hours, etc as long as there is money behind it.

With money being your only goal, rather than fulfilling a passion of yours, what business would you start?

18 years old, willing to invest about $5000-$6000 depending on how solid the idea is. Ive thought about landscaping but we really only have a solid 4 months where that stuff is needed where I live because of the weather. I do like the idea of something that I would do every week or every month for my customer base, like a repeat service kinda thing.

    Give me your thoughts!

(help) how to create the initial budget for a new project

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 11:04 AM PDT

    Hi,

Some friends and me are starting a new project and we need to create a budget for our investors. The project is basically to create a digital newspaper for Android and iOS.

We have knowledge in software design and software development, but we are not confident about how to create a good budget --we have outlined the general steps to follow in the development of the project from the beginning until end, but we need to evaluate risks, deadlines...

Is there any good guide online that could help us to create the budget? Any tips or examples?

What is one thing you know now about starting a business that you wish you knew before you started it?

I'm launching an app that pays users when they play pickup sports (Basketball, Football, Soccer) (Think Sweatcoin but MUCH more)

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 09:54 AM PDT

For the kid who can't afford the new pair of shoes he needs to get back to grinding, Coast 2 Coast is nothing short of a god-send.

This app has the potential to get kids more excited than ever about playing sports, encouraging physically active lifestyles and leading to better health and more competitive leagues!

I've come to this Reddit because i would like to gain some knowledge from people who have been there done that.

We are nearing launch and I'm wondering how does one go about contacting the big brands and getting their attention? Is it something that's possible or do those brands come to you once you get off the ground and gain popularity.

I'VE INCLUDED A LINK IN THE FIRST COMMENT explaining the app it's about a 4 - 5 minute read.

The link includes answers about Cheating, and gives an in depth look at how the app exactly works and how the user gets paid.

    THANK YOU

Mobile vender rental business permits (San Diego)

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 09:46 AM PDT

So I'm working on starting a mobile rental business. Basically I park a car with an attached trailer that contains surfboards, paddle boards or kayaks. From then on it will operate like dockable bikes. With an app based unlocking/locking system. What I'm stuck on is I can't figure out what type of permit I will need to apply for to perform street vending. I know its legal to do as I've seen mobile IV trucks (this comanpy http://ivlift.com/) in the area I want to launch the rental system. From http://docs.sandiego.gov/municode/MuniCodeChapter05/Ch05Art04Division01.pdf it states "No merchandise or services shall be sold or distributed or offered for sale or distribution, whether from a vehicle or otherwise, upon public property without the authorization of the public entity."

Which basically says I need the public entity aka city to allow me to do it which I assume is apply for a permit and hope they allow my to conduct business from a parking spot. Has anyone here launched a mobile business and know what types of permits/licensing that was needed from the city?

Hire a professional to set up my accounting software?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2018 09:44 AM PDT

I'm a small business just starting out. I'll be dealing with a warehouse, shipping, printing, taxes and most importantly currency exchange. I spent the last few days trying to figure out how to set up an accounting software so I can track everything precisely. Since I sell in USA but live in a different country, I have to deal track all the exchange rates. Which doesn't make life easier.

Would you advice me to pay an accountant to help me set up the software, so it will be on point?

    Thanks in advance, Daniel
