Continuously buying short-term treasuries since their yield beats my savings interest rate?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 08:45 AM PST

Confused on why more people aren't buying 1 month t-bills or even 3-months since their yield is so much higher than most saving accounts interest per year? Is this possible to do? Thank you!

What are yall's take on CWH? Possibly a great buying opportunity on this dip.... Dividend, beats earnings, great growth... One down side is Steel Tariffs may cause a speed bump. Thoughts?

AMZN or GOOG: Long term hold?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 01:12 PM PST

Hi all, I recently inherited $20k and am looking to add to my stock portfolio. Trying to decide between around 12 shares of AMZN or 18 shares of GOOG.

Which would you rather hold long term and why? If it is worth buying a combination of both please specify. Thank you!

Feedback for a new investor in the stock market

    Posted: 03 Mar 2018 11:16 PM PST

    Hi /r/stocks,

Since the beginning of this year I was fortunate enough to invest quite a lot of money into stocks. Because this is quite new to me and in the past it worked out to listen to experienced people I'd like to ask for some feedback regarding my strategy.

My plan is to invest around 40k$ a year in two parts. 20k each 6 months. I live in Switzerland and work for an American cybersecurity vendor. I have an account on Schwab but usually sell all my company RSUs and ESPPs once I unlock them because I'd like to have my money on a Swiss bank account. I am aware that I lose some % regarding commission but that's worth for me to have it all in Switzerland.

My portfolio looks like this at the moment. Because I work in the IT business I only invest in tech stocks:

    • 56 AMS
    • 4 AMZN
    • 75 ATVI
    • 104 CRM
    • 55 MSFT
    • 70 APPL
    • 46 BABA

up to now I am up around 5% overall. My yearly overall goal/expectation is around 5%

I basically have some simple rules:

    • do not sell whatever happens
    • only long term investment (3-5+ years)
    • only invest money which I don't need

    My questions to you are:

At the moment I don't really have any spare money to invest, but every 6 months I'll have around 20k to invest. How much money should I have in free cash flow for "buying the dip". Is this something which I should consider or just buy some more stock when I have money to do it?

I already have a good diversity in my opinion with 7 different stocks and my plan was to not extend the different stocks (because on day I will sell and I'll pay way more commission then). Is this something which is not really important in a long term strategy?

Any tips and feedback is welcome. Thanks

Interest Rates and Stock Prices: Looking Under the Hood!

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 05:18 AM PST

It is conventional wisdom that higher interest rates are bad for stocks, but is that true? In this session, I take issue with that conclusion, arguing first that interest rate changes are driven by changes in fundamentals, and second that you need to make a judgment on why rates are going up, before deciding whether that rise rise is good or bad for value.

Anyone know the IPO date for Spotify? Anyone think this is a winner? I like it best over XM and Pandora.

Best way to sell US shares and get money to UK?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2018 10:12 AM PST

    Hi all,

First time user on this subreddit. My friend has a large amount of shares in a US company (3M) which he has had for many years. He has always paid income tax on the dividends that these shares have paid but now hes moving to retirement, he is looking to sell these shares and use the funds for his pension. As said, he has a large amount of shares in the company (close to 1000) and is concerned about the amount of tax he will have to pay on this being above the capital gains limit. He was wondering what is his best option? I'm not sure if there is a tax efficient way to do this or is there another option available to him?

Any help is appreciated and please ask for any more info.

    Thanks!

How accurate are yahoo finance's forward P/E numbers?

I was wondering if they are a reliable way of determining future earnings for the next year. Would you say they are usually in the correct ballpark of future earnings?

I’m turning into a mini index fund.

Instead of adding more to my positions, I'd much rather buy other individual stocks.

    Is this bad
