Did you actually pick your passion? Posted: 27 Mar 2018 03:16 AM PDT Hey all, Question regarding when you all started up. Did you actually pick your passion? Or, did you instead just pick something that you felt would be profitable? As someone who just goes to work, goes to the gym, plays some football and is into gaming, like most people in their late teens/early 20's and so on, I guess it's kind of normal to be into these things.. I don't really have a passion I guess. Or am I not self aware enough? Would love to know how you all decided on what made you jump to it :) [link] [comments] |
Looking for Software Application Posted: 26 Mar 2018 06:34 PM PDT I'm looking for a small business application, and I'm not sure if something like this exists or not. A little background on what I do. I procure material for the federal government. This entails looking up a lot of NSN's, which are hardly updated. Researching price points for these NSN's requires me to look up Vendor information and find the best prices. I'd like to have a program where I can plug these NSN into and store the prices I find, and the vendors offering those prices. I'd also like to store general information about the materials. I'd assume this program would be like a small ERP, but I don't want to spend the large amounts most ERP's cost. Anyone have any ideas? [link] [comments] |
How can I avoid client who wants to talk to references? Posted: 26 Mar 2018 09:58 PM PDT I am a consultant and have a potential new client that is asking to speak to my other former or current clients. I don't have that many and really do not want to bother them with talking someone who may or may not end up signing a contract with me. She has my client list and Linkedin references already. I think it's a stalling tactic but don't know how to reply exactly. [link] [comments] |
Feedback Request: Would you Outsource a CTO / Tech Consultant? Posted: 27 Mar 2018 01:40 AM PDT I've seen companies who basically outsource CFO's, who basically are like those managed WP support sites, except it's Financial Experts and Accountants. What I'm thinking of is something like... You're building a Saas. You've coded up a prototype, or used non-programming tools like Bubble, an app builder, wix, or you know what you want to do, but no idea how to do it, or where to start. You'd signup on a monthly retainer depending on how much support you think you need. Services:
You could pay $200k for a CTO, or you could pay maybe $500-1000 a month till you don't need us anymore, and are ready for a full-time CTO. You'd get unlimited tickets, and access to our discord channel, saving $8-15k/month while starting your business and having multiple tech guys to get ideas off of via our discord channel, could mean the difference between running out of runway, or picking the wrong goose/framework. Business went down. What happens if I can't pay my credit cards & outstanding bills? Posted: 26 Mar 2018 08:38 AM PDT I had to suddenly close my doors after running the business (S-corp) for 5 years. I still operate minimally at home and the little money I am making out of it goes to my home expenses. Unfortunately, I am stuck with a few business bills that I have no money to pay until I can get more business:
It may not seem like much but I've never dealt with this situation so I'm clueless about what to do. What can the companies above do if I'm unable to pay them? Can they go after me or my credit personally? Thanks for any help. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Mar 2018 03:47 AM PDT So my business ships a lot of packages and we get really low negotiated shipping rates. I'm thinking if we partnered with a few other businesses that could benefit from cutting shipping costs we could use generate some additional revenue. What are some possible pros/cons? CRM & Project Management Tools Posted: 27 Mar 2018 03:31 AM PDT We are a B2B wholesaler selling a range of products to both distributors and direct to retail. We would like to use a project management tool to improve our workflow efficiency and manage our company growth strategy. We also want a CRM that our sales team can use to maintain our leads and returning customer database. What tool/s should we be considering for project management and CRM? [link] [comments] |
Getting More Google My Business Reviews Posted: 26 Mar 2018 12:46 PM PDT Hey y'all, I know that getting Google reviews is super important. But what's the best way to do it? It seems like some businesses in the same industry are getting 30-40+ reviews and I'm not even at 10... I know you can't pay for reviews. I have an email list but not sure an effective (not annoying) way to go about that. Thoughts? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Platform for equipment rental service? Posted: 27 Mar 2018 01:40 AM PDT Hi All, I'm looking into the possibility of building a rental service for a specific type of sports equipment. It would require a web interface where customers can select their equipment, some additional add-ons (e.g. optional insurance) and then a payment processor. This basic functionality would be possible, I think, via some popular add-ons for Shopify (BookThatApp) and SquareSpace (Booqable). The difficulty is that I want to offer two types of rental service: (1) A 'free selection', where customers can simply select the equipment they want and the length of time they want to hire for, and (2) an 'events' system, where customers hire the equipment for specific events, and thus the dates and prices are fixed. I don't see an easy way to handle this with the above systems. Does anyone have a suggestion or recommendation of how this could be achieved? I have a background in programming and could develop this myself, but want to avoid re-inventing the wheel as much as possible. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Client wants an invoice for a project this financial year, but won't finish it until April? Posted: 27 Mar 2018 01:30 AM PDT Hi guys, I'm doing a project for a client that will complete in April, however they'd like to be invoiced this month so it falls within this financial year (and this year's budget). How would I invoice them? Would I put todays invoice date, but extend the due date? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Mar 2018 11:26 AM PDT Losing my mind and nothing seems to stick. Basic description: it's an affordably priced "meal prep" service that provides concierge gourmet meals for in-home cooking (we leave it in the fridge for you) or for delivery. All diets; paleo, vegan, dairy free, gluten free, low carb, sugar free, and don't forget the traditional high carb-idc-whats-in-it hungry mans meal. It's great for people who need a lifestyle change too and just don't know how to start. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, protein power ups, extra grocery shopping... were really covering all bases. It's NOT on demand delivery (don't think Pizza Hut); each client's menu is tailored to their personal diet needs. These are reoccurring weekly clients that are either too busy, unable, or just don't want to cook when they get home. Many of the clients travel every week so it's very convenient and affordable to have meals ready for them when they get back to town. Meals are in either large Pyrex dishes (holds entire meal) or in higher end separate to-go containers for each meal. I'd prefer something easy to say and understand; one, maybe two words in length, and very few syllables. No tongue twisters. No specific dietary references. Clean. Fresh. Wholesome. Trendy but not extreme (does that make sense?) :) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Mar 2018 08:34 AM PDT I have a website and just wondering, what would result in higher conversions? I feel a toll free number gives the impression of a larger company, but a local number gives off those local vibes and the better satisfaction for the end user supporting a local business. Thoughts? Posted: 26 Mar 2018 11:40 AM PDT I am a sole owner of a small business (<$500k revenue, 3 full time employees). I have a project that will cost about $50k. I have the cash reserves, about $217k in member equity, and personal loans of about $450k. My question is how best to fund the capital improvement project? I would like to understand from a tax perspective, a bank perspective and an overall company-health perspective. Thank you so much for helping me understand. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Mar 2018 04:10 PM PDT I apologize if this is a dumb question or if the answer can be easily found. I've been looking for the answer, but haven't come across exactly what I'm looking for. I understand that LLCs do not pay taxes on business income, but are instead passed through to the members. My question then is, how do you make business deductions? Do you do this when you are doing your personal tax return? Is this process different if there are 2 members? [link] [comments] |
Where are the best places to find and search for business partners? Posted: 26 Mar 2018 10:07 PM PDT I am an idea person. I come up with ideas and develop them into a product or business. I am also not very well off, meaning getting them to fruition is a constant challenge. In fact I have yet to open a business other than my contracting business that has been able to turn a profit. I need a partner. A partner willing to at least hear out my ideas and consider opening up shop with me. I'm not looking to become a millionaire, I just want to be able to help out and get my ideas out there. [link] [comments] |
How hard is it to patent an idea? Posted: 26 Mar 2018 08:48 PM PDT I want to patent the idea of a rolling hotel, in which it's self driving, and you go to sleep in New York City, and it's in a giant trailer. You wake up in Chicago in the morning. It has full amenities, and is comfy and has internet and tv and everything else. [link] [comments] |
Is an attorney necessary to file trademarks? Posted: 26 Mar 2018 08:45 PM PDT I'm looking at filing trademarks for my company name, logo, and slogan. I've done my own research on the USPTO site and it looks like nothing I want to trademark is already being used or trademarked. However, it looks like filing for them myself online will cost roughly half as much than if I used an attorney to do this. Are attorney's only necessary to enforce trademarks? Or should I pay the extra and get an attorney to do the trademark work for me? [link] [comments] |
Has anyone made a commercial before? We're about to and I'd love any input or advice. Posted: 26 Mar 2018 02:39 PM PDT Hi, We will be running a 30 second commercial for our mattress store and I've to love to hear any personal experiences, advice, or input. We're a small family run local business and we're hoping to connect with a strong commercial- they tend to do very well in our market. We'll be running on: HGTV, TLC, Food, CNN, etc, to name a few. Our main demo is 24-45 female. I think a strong "Locally owned Family Operated" message would be great, but I don't want to be too vanilla. I know this is a broad question, but I'd love to hear from all spectrums before investing in a commercial. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Mar 2018 08:31 AM PDT Hello Reddit! I am in love with Christmas, and I think I'm at the place where I want to start designing and producing my own ornaments. I have access to a local community clayworks where individual prototypes can be made, fired, and finished. I can not, for the life of me however, find a US manufacturer where I can get them produced on a scale for selling. I know its a specific question, but does anyone know where I can find a US ceramics producer where I can submit my samples and have them produced? Thanks Reddit!!!!! [link] [comments] |
What is the most profitable franchise to open? Posted: 26 Mar 2018 06:54 PM PDT I own a piece of land in a growing area, and was looking into opening up a franchise. I was thinking along the lines of pei wei, wendys, or chipotle. I'm open to industries outside of food, but I have no idea of any industry that would be as profitable as food. What are your thoughts? How Do I Target Race in Facebook Ads? Posted: 26 Mar 2018 04:49 PM PDT We've been operating about half a year. We are in a predominately white neighborhood and most of our customers are Asian. We're still struggling and we've been trying to figure out how to get new customers. I'm trying out facebook ads for the first time. I'm trying to be frugal with my ad spend and I want to make sure I'm not targeting existing customers. We think we have most of the Asian community as customers already. I'd like to target the non Asian community. I'm not seeing an obvious way to do this in campaign editor. Does anyone know how to do this? [link] [comments] |
Selling company equipment on eBay Posted: 26 Mar 2018 08:38 AM PDT Hi all, Our company has an older piece of equipment that we'd like to sell. I'm not aware of any forums where I can sell and I think my best bet is on eBay. I have no experience selling on eBay and I'm concerned about getting chargebacks or scams, specifically, chargeback from PayPal after I've shipped. A chargeback would devastate my small business. What measures can I take to ensure PayPal does side with me if the unfortunate happens? I read that a PayPal almost never sides with the merchant. Thank you [link] [comments] |
Do I pay joint expenses with personal and sole proprietorship with person or business credit card? Posted: 26 Mar 2018 08:14 AM PDT I've just started a sole proprietorship business and am still working full-time. I'm still in the set-up phases of the small business where I'll have a bit of overhead cost before it can run. I've created a separate small business bank account and have a separate small business credit card. From my research I want to keep business things separate. But I don't know what to do for joint personal/business expenses. I know I can claim a percentage of business usage for tax purposes (ex. if I use 25% of my internet time for business stuff I can claim 25% of my internet bill) but do I pay my internet bill with my personal or business credit card? And then how do I categorize that? I think it'd be easier to pay with the business credit card and then only itemize a percentage of that as an expense and the rest is automatically considered personal? But then things will be slightly off book keeping wise. What does everyone else do? [link] [comments] |
