What IS Business? Can you redefine it for me?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2018 12:31 AM PDT

I'm a comp sci major struggling in math, as I have been for years. My parents are anxious/worried about my marathon like struggle. I've been at my local community college for almost 5 years making my way up the math ladder. They want me to switch to CIS....or Business Admin because almost no college around me has CIS as a degree (BS or transfer). ..even though I'm much better at everything than I was. My study habits were bad.

I like to program, learn, develop, create, build things, and solve puzzles. I've heard a business degree isn't powerful anymore (or even something to get you a stable job), it's boring, you ass kiss 24/7, it's retail (ugh), it's soul sucking. Hollywood hasn't helped paint it any better, but then again what do they really know? I can't spend 8+ hours a day around people, especially people I'd need to fake every emotion around. I'm introverted to an extent. I don't want to make work my life, unless it's NASA or some amazing shit. I don't want to deal with hellion customers who are dumber than 4 yr olds all day. I've read about how extremely automation will affect business (service industry = double kill?). I've been told everyone and their mother has a business degree. It's flooded, and unemployment is high-ish. I've heard/read/seen more, but I'll stop here.

I want a job or field that I can at least enjoy and survive in, because it retirement real anymore? I don't think business is that. I'll take a longer harder road to CS over the above paragraph...with my current business field knowledge. I'd have to do another YEAR of community college and change my major super late. I've got financial aid, so money doesn't matter too much. Still...business just seems so scary. I'm probably wrong about a lot, so can you redefine business for me? I may give it a chance.

    What major would you recommend?

    Posted: 26 Mar 2018 08:11 PM PDT

Note that this is not a "what should I major in" thread bc I'm too lazy to find my passion. My passion is business, and I'm leaning towards finance.

However I've been told/heard there may be other business majors that are more versatile (Econ). Additionally I've also heard that a minor in finance combined with Math or CS major would open up plenty more opportunities than a finance major itself.

What do you think and why?

friend is investing in my product, what percentage should i cut him?

    Posted: 26 Mar 2018 11:34 PM PDT

I recently came up with a product design, and I plan to purchase 200 units of said product for $370 total on wholesale.

With that said, that's about $1.85 to make each one, and I plan to sell them for $8 a piece.

If I sell all 200, which should be quite easy to do, that's a $1230 profit.

With that said, however, my friend offered to go half and half on the $370 cost for the first shipment.

I'd be happy to make a deal with him on that since I don't quite have much money saved right now, but I'd like to figure out what would be a fair percentage to cut him in on the profit.

Originally, since he offered to go half and half, I thought I'd cut him 50%, but thinking about it now, I'm the one who came up with the idea, design, and am also doing all the marketing.

What do you guys think is a fair percentage to cut him?
