    Taboo Question

    Posted: 26 Mar 2018 02:05 PM PDT

I think Salary should not be a Taboo discussion topic. How much did you make at your first job right out of college? Include your state.

How to make yourself care about your job? [Serious]

    Posted: 26 Mar 2018 09:19 AM PDT

I know this will be met with a lot of joking responses, but in all seriousness, how do you guys make yourself care, focus, and learn when working in public accounting?

I'm a first year staff, started in October. I feel like I'm given tasks, complete them with some help, and then get more tasks. On and on. Don't know how much I'm really learning, other than how to complete things. And the workpapers I'm completing almost feel like a game/puzzle sometimes. Find this number, make this normal add to this one, make it all work based on whatever PY thing I'm looking at.

How do you guys CARE and LEARN how to become good auditors? There's some seniors that seem to have so much industry knowledge and seem passionate about work. How do you get there? How do you make this feeling like a career rather than some task-based job that you have to do every day that means nothing to you?

I was told I need a business case approved after an interview. Is this HR asking for approval of my offer from upper management or is this something else entirely?

    Mid College Crisis

    Posted: 26 Mar 2018 09:06 PM PDT

I am at the end of my junior year, one year away from graduating with and education degree and I realized I do NOT want to teach. I am in Arizona (so that says a lot), but I realized that I do not find value in my classes, am constantly reassuring myself that I will have an okay-life, imagining what being under payed and under valued for years will be like, and wondering what other careers I can do with an education degree that makes more than 35k. Quite honestly, I have just realized the full extent of my life if I choose to continue on this degree path.

My conflict is this: I don't know whether to choose to graduate with a degree I am so close to having, or completely choose a different degree. I have become really interested in accounting, and I would just like some general advice on what to do.

I want to MAX stay in school for 3 more years, but I want to plan on doing this in 2 years (taking summer/ winter courses). I am prepared to work my butt off, nail an interview in the business college at my university, and generally accept my failure so far in school.

I dunno just some advice? Lol help

Does academic misconduct impact CPA eligibility?

    Posted: 26 Mar 2018 08:30 PM PDT

Title pretty much says it all - I'm graduating school in May and am planning on taking the CPA exams in Ohio. I will meet all of the requirements to sit for it, but was just wondering if misconduct on my transcript would for some reason make me ineligible to sit. New to the forum so sorry if i formatted incorrectly. Thank you so much in advance

    Help memorizing tables and sheets

    Posted: 26 Mar 2018 08:02 PM PDT

Currently in Cost accounting at university. I'm having a really hard time memorizing the different budget sheets and what exactly goes into which sheets. If anyone has a certain method they used to help them study these, I'd love to learn it.

HOMEWORK HELP - Is there more I can add to my answer? Question inside. (Advanced Accounting).

    Posted: 26 Mar 2018 02:57 PM PDT

Here is the question, the red highlighted part is what I am asking about.

    My answer:

"On the date of acquisition and only on this date, the subsidiaries assets and liabilities are reported on the consolidated balance sheet at fair value. Post date of acquisition these fair values become historical values for reporting purposes. Hence, the assets and liabilities of the subsidiary are not remeasured to fair value after the date of acquisition has passed."

Is there anything else that would be useful to include? Or something else I can add, I feel like my answer is lacking.

Any tips are helpful! thank you.

    Thanks.

Has anyone went to an accredited online college? Did it affect job prospects?

    Posted: 26 Mar 2018 11:39 AM PDT

Posted an earlier topic about what college I should go to . Now I feel online accredited is the most life fitting choice? Wondering if anyone else has and have a few questions:

Edit: I'm currently looking into enrolling in penn state world campus (online) but I live in the state and the school has physical satellites close by and main campus is about a 2 hour drive. Thanks for the feedback so far guys!

1: do you feel your job prospects would have been better going to I physical campus?

    1. Did you get your CPA with help from college? Did it help any?

    2. What school did you go to and how would you rate the program?

Thanks and any other relevant information would be helpful! This reddit has been an amazing help for me.

Does Switching Practices Within a Big 4 Firm Result in a Demotion?

    Posted: 26 Mar 2018 10:39 PM PDT

Might be a stupid question but I was wondering, if say, a senior audit associate made the jump to advisory, would he/she be demoted back down to just an advisory associate, since they're basically fresh into the field? Or say a forensics manager wanted to go back to audit, would they be demoted to audit senior since they have less audit-specific experience? Or is job title more correlated with years spent with the firm?

Thanks in advance for any information.

How did the recession of 2008 affect firms across the country?

    Posted: 26 Mar 2018 08:26 AM PDT

I was in middle school at the time of the recession, and I have been reading books about how significantly it affected the financial industry. I am curious about how it compares to the accounting industry. Were there mass layoffs, or firms going under?

Illinois Online Masters of Accounting Program Recruiting?

    Posted: 26 Mar 2018 02:37 PM PDT

So I recently found out that Illinois offers an Online version of their Masters of Accounting that is very affordable. Given the online format, how would recruiting work (specifically with Big 4)? Would it just be cold resume drops? Seems like a good value from a great brand, but really just unsure if the online part defeats the whole recruiting point of the macc, which is the whole reason I am enrolling in one.
