The 12 Signs a Cheap Stock Is a 'Value Trap'

What is the impact of shares short as a % of float.

Many of the stocks that I am looking at have a relatively high % of the float short. Is it valid that certain value stocks that are oversold, may also be over-shorted, and potentially subject to a short squeeze as the value is realized by the market, increasing IRR?

How can I learn about usage of the short float analysis in value investing? Examples? How do you use this statistic?

Edgar Equivalent to UK or EU company filings

    Posted: 30 Nov 2017 07:44 AM PST

I started looking for value in UK small cap companies. I am finding it difficult to compare companies with its peers as reporting is generally less uniform. Would go straight to investor relations pages for annual, and semi annual reports but how they report, and the format tends to vary by company.

Are there 10K, or 10Q equivalents in UK or EU filings?

Basic Accounting: Calculating FCFF Fairfax Financial 2016

    Posted: 30 Nov 2017 08:19 AM PST

    Hello everyone!

I've just started in this subreddit and have begun with the resources in the sidebar.

One metric I'm interested in is the FCFF for a Canadian company called Fairfax Financial (from their 2016 report). I've calculated the quantity and want my process to be double checked.

    • I calculated their gross revenue: 9,299.60
    • And gross expenses (less interest): 9611.1
    • To arrive at EBIT: (311.5)

    Added back in

    • D&A: 191.7
    • PP&E Expenditure (208.3)

    Arriving at FCFF: (328.1)

Does this look like I'm moving in roughly the right direction? What I haven't done is added or removed any of their investing expenditures (stocks) which are considerable (on the order of $1.6B). I've also included a line item in gross revenue taking a $1.2B hit on unrealized losses on investments.

    Would appreciate any criticisms.

Link to the report here. http://s1.q4cdn.com/579586326/files/Financial-Report-/YearEnd2016/Fairfax_2016_Annual_Report_CNB.pdf

    Thanks,

    K
