[US] Absolutely panicking about possibly failing FAR twice Posted: 30 Dec 2017 01:56 PM PST I took FAR a couple months ago and got a 67. I had left most of the simulations blank, and I hadn't practiced any of the Becker simulations. This time around, I've been focusing on simulations, the book (rather than relying on the lectures), and more MCQs. I'm taking the exam this coming Friday and still have to finish the last chapter and try a practice test. But I'm absolutely panicking over the idea of failing a second time. If that were to happen, I would feel like a complete and utter failure, and feel like I should give up on accounting entirely. Has anyone here ever failed the same section twice? I've been told that you can still get some good studying in even with a few days left. [link] [comments]
[Off-Topic] What to do if you accidentally come across as a creeper? Posted: 30 Dec 2017 09:33 AM PST I'm probably socially retarded, and as such I think I may have accidentally gave off a creeper vibe to a woman(my age) I work with. Nothing like staring at her cleavage or such, but when I started a few months ago and was trying to make friends at the office. Trying to be nice and friendly with this person, I gave her a sincere compliment(nicely dressed-obv stupid in retrospect) and what I think happened was she took it as me hitting/creeping on her. Based on how she acts around me(standoffish/never talks to me/never accepts invites for things), I guess that this is probably what happened due to me giving off the wrong impression. Is there anything I can do to salvage the situation, or am I forever branded a creepy guy? It's not really about wanting her to be nice to me, but rather I hope that I did not make her feel uncomfortable. [link] [comments]
Any auditors on here notice how much we use “in order to” when we could just use “to” Posted: 30 Dec 2017 06:26 PM PST I've been noticing it a lot lately and it's driving me crazy. Anyone else feel the same? [link] [comments]
[CAN] How long does CPA take to process admission for membership? Posted: 30 Dec 2017 06:47 PM PST From the moment you qualify, finalizing PERT, sending to CPA etc., does anyone know how many months it usually takes before you officially get your letters? [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Dec 2017 11:45 AM PST I just read the topic about an engineering that is working in the mining industry and is afraid his/her skill is going to be too limited. I resonate a bit with this because it seems that it is not only the major but it is also the industry where you specialize in. Please. Any tip or advice? [link] [comments]
Probably a very stupid question Posted: 30 Dec 2017 03:32 PM PST So a friend of mine hasn't worked for the last year for personal reasons but has 3 dependants. She doesn't receive any help from the government (wealthy in-laws) Her boyfriend who is NOT the kids father is trying to talk her into letting him claim the kids because he says she won't get anything anyway with no W-2's. So please can you please let her know that he is trying to get over on her? It may not be much but whatever she does get he definitely doesn't deserve. I suggested putting it away for the kids. Thanks in advance!! [link] [comments]
Taking FAR exam this upcoming Friday, tips? Posted: 30 Dec 2017 06:55 PM PST Taking my second practice exam tomorrow. When I do MCQ progress tests on becker for all 10 chapters I am getting passing grades. Any tips for success? [link] [comments]
Engineer looking to study accounting Posted: 30 Dec 2017 06:24 AM PST I am a canadian engineer and I've been working in the mining industry for ~3 years. As you all may know the mining industry is quite limited and uncertain. It may be the same for many other engineers, but i fear that the skills i developped at my current job are very specific and may be only useful to the position i currently have. I really love my job and the people I'm working with but i fear that I may soon be left jobless... even though I've been told by my boss that quite a few people would have to go before my turn comes. I've taken some accounting classes while working and the ''accounting'' part of my job really entertains me. Some member of my family are CPAs so i though it would be fun to join the group. I'm almost done completing all the courses needed to be elligible for the cpa candidacy (2 semesters part-time left). I know I'm getting into something that will require a lot of commitment so i feel like i need to ask hows the employment and job stability like in accountancy ?As an engineer, do you think getting a CPA will increase my employability ? Would having an engineering degree destroy my chances of ever landing a job in the accounting field? I've asked these questions to a few people I know and i received extremely different answers. I'd like to know what you guys think. [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Dec 2017 07:08 AM PST I've watched a couple videos on Youtube about Roger and I love his teaching style. I just signed up for his premier review course and plan on tackling the CPA in 2018. How good is his program, according to the Reddit community? Ive read reviews, Another71, and previous reddit threads. Figured Id start a new one seeing how he upgraded his IPQ, etc. He also has an elijah watts award winner under his belt who exclusively used his program, so it must be legit? Should I supplement with Exam Matrix MCQ? [link] [comments]
[Serious] I graduated from Canada, looking to do my CPA from US and work here Posted: 30 Dec 2017 02:33 PM PST Does Anyone have any experience with this? New Hempshire allows you to gain 1 year experience here and have it signed under a CPA here. 80% of companies here are owned and operated from the states and I talked to my uncle whose a CEO and one whose a CFO and they both said just get A designation. Any. I guess they mean that experience > schooling in a sense. My CFO Uncle has a VP director working under him whose a CPA from Australia from did his schooling in China and working in Canada. I really want to confirm this before buying Becker review + courses. Also, living in the States for a year or two in the future may be a part of my plan aswell. Thoughts? [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Dec 2017 07:11 PM PST Anyone have experience at Miller Cooper in Chicago? Do they drug test for tax? Thinking about applying, just want a heads up if I have to stop. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Dec 2017 02:41 PM PST I've been seeing a lot of mixed posts about how heavily BLAW is tested, from being 80% of the mc to saying not to bother studying it. I know every test is different/I will definitely look at the sections, but I'm in a time crunch. Is there any specific subject in blaw that is of higher importance? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Dec 2017 07:57 AM PST I am NY in case that makes a difference. As I understand, business meals are deductible at 50%, but I am not sure how you account for the other 50% on a balance sheet. After 3.5 years of business, this is the first meal I'll be d deducting as it was a one on one business meeting done over lunch. The business is a LLC filed as partnership. We file a 1065 and issue my wife and I a K1 for each of us. The meeting was with a 3rd party. Can someone please provide guidance? [link] [comments]

Is it rare for someone to be earning a minimum of £100,000 a year in their 30s/40s? Posted: 30 Dec 2017 12:23 PM PST After doing tax or audit at the big 4. (In the UK of course) [link] [comments]
Has anyone ever sold their Becker books or subscription after they passed the CPA? Posted: 30 Dec 2017 04:00 PM PST I have all 4 textbooks (V3.0 or 3.1), the final review books for each test, and the physical and virtual flashcards for the Becker course. My online login doesn't expire until October 2018. Has anyone successfully sold theirs on eBay? The books look like they can go for a hundred bucks or so a piece and the flashcards are worth a decent amount too (my flashcards are still brand new in the plastic wrap). I know Becker supposedly says you can't sell the books but is that just an empty threat or are you really not permitted to sell them on a site like eBay or Craigslist? I could use the money but I don't want to be sued or anything like that. Or does anyone here want to buy them lol I'm sure we could work out a price where we're both happy :) [link] [comments]
Rollovers, tie outs, and testing controls for audit interns Posted: 30 Dec 2017 03:57 PM PST I'm starting an audit internship next month at a B4. My intern buddy said I would probably do rollovers, tie outs and testing controls. What does that mean? rollovers = 2016YE --> 2017YE? Tie outs = TB = Sum of a stack of invoices? Testing controls = a/p clerk doesn't do the bank recs? Can anyone tell me more? [link] [comments] |
